"Together with our Buying department, I look at what should or should not be purchased. In doing so, I make data analyses and provide the right advice. For me, this job is the perfect combination of product and commerce."

The attraction of WE®

What starts as a side job turns into a challenging position at the headquarters. It's 2013 when Shannon Sadal starts out her career at WE Fashion. "I entered the organisation through the store," Shannon begins. "I was looking for something to do alongside my studies and WE® seemed like a great fit to me." That thought proved to be the right one as she likes working in store. She really enjoys it, but temporarily puts her work on hold when she starts her internship. After this brief interlude, Shannon finds her way back to the store team. "Around that time, I was graduating and saw a future in a position at the headquarters. The job I was waiting for actually came quite quickly: in December of 2016, my work moved from the store to the head office. I've now been working - leaving out a gap of studying and travelling - at WE Fashion for 9 years."

Anything is possible

Shannon currently fulfils the role of merchandiser at WE Fashion. One of the things she enjoys most about her job is the freedom of interpretation. "Together with our Buying department, I look at what should or should not be purchased. I make data analyses and provide the right advice. To me, this job is the perfect combination of product and commerce." Shannon explains that, as a merchandiser, you are mainly testing and analysing to achieve the best results. "It's important to be open-minded and risk-taking. Something I myself have learned a lot from." Soon after her entry as Assistant Merchandiser, back in 2016, Shannon made the switch to Junior Merchandiser.  "I really enjoyed this development. When I just started, I needed some time to get used to working life. Fortunately, I was guided well and able to show that I wanted to grow." She certainly does the latter, as from here, she made the jump to her current position: merchandiser for denim, knitwear and jersey in the women's department. Shannon: "I think this shows that anything is possible, as long as you are eager to learn."

Team spirit

"I'm in charge of budget planning on a daily basis. This involves me reviewing the weekly budget and making a plan for the product categories. Although I'm responsible for my own work, this is just one component of the many things we do at WE®. After all, the best results are achieved together." According to Shannon, this very mentality can be felt in much more than just her work. "As a merchandiser at WE Fashion, you'll collaborate lots with other departments within the headquarters, the stores and the distribution centre. You learn from and with each other."

The place to learn

When Shannon reflects on the past few years, one thing comes up more than once: experience is the best teacher. "I entered the headquarters with zero work experience. Just out of school and still unsure about my job. I really experience WE® as the place to be able to learn." She has since settled in completely and is proud of her personal growth. "At WE®, there is a lot of attention for development, both personally and professionally. I have conversations about my goals several times a year and I get the opportunity to take part in various training courses, for example." As for the future, Shannon says the following: " What that will turn out to be, all remains to be seen. But of course, I hope that I can continue to enjoy working for WE Fashion in the years to come."
